Excerpts from Dr. BJ Palmer, the developer of Chiropractic, in his book, Fame and Fortune, published in 1955.  He remarks on the signs of intelligence of life in us and our human experience.  I can’t remark on the accuracy of the figures, as different findings may now be accepted since the information was written, but it doesn’t change his sentiments on the awe inspiring nature of our existence.

Here he speaks on the conception of life.

“All our heredity, our nature, is transmitted to us from our parents through tiny cells which connect our living substance with that of our forebears. Each human being takes its origin from the union of two of these bits of living matter, an egg from the mother which has been.

“Fertilized by a single sperm from the father. The egg is a tiny sphere hardly visible to the naked eye; it has been estimated that twenty million human eggs would weigh about one ounce. A sperm is visible only with the aid of a microscope, and its volume is about eighty-five thousand times smaller than that of an egg. Furthermore, a sperm is quite different from an egg in appearance being shaped like a thread inflated at one end to form a ‘head.’ Some idea of the sizes of these living links between the generations has been given by an eminent American biologist, H. J. Muller, who has calculated that if we could collect together all the eggs from which the present human population of the earth has sprung—two billion two hundred millions of them—they would all occupy the volume of about two and a half quarts. The sperm cells—two billions of them—would occupy the space of half an aspirin tablet.”

“The chromosomes occupy a considerable fraction of the volume of the sperm, but only a tiny fraction of the volume of the egg. The combined volumes of the chromosomes in the 2,200,000,000 sperms and in the equal number of egg cells from which the human beings now living have sprung would add up to less bulk than an aspirin tablet. And yet, this minute amount of substance contained the heredity of the whole human race!”

Here BJ Palmer highlights the super powers of our bodies in action.

Every 24 hours your heart beats 103,689 times, your blood travels 168,000,000 miles, your lungs breathe 23,240 times.

“One tissue cell—let alone trillions that make up your body— Could he place them according to classification, assemble them into systems, coordinate all systems together into one grand harmonious whole, make them functionate naturally and healthily from birth to death?”

Innate is a SCULPTOR which shapes all living things; a MUSICIAN that teaches birds, insects, and men to sing; a CHEMIST which gives taste to fruit and spices, PERFUME to flowers, and transforms water and carbonic acid into sugar and wood. A transparent, mist-like drop of protoplasm, drawing energy from the sun, holds the seed of life and is the mother of everything that lives—both plant and animal. Where did it come from?

“Thots” as he referred to them, from the original chiropractor, Dr. BJ Palmer.  Chiropractic is unique because it is built upon a science, art, and philosophy of our innate intelligence, the healing power of life.

Benjamin Franklin said it well; “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

I want to help you understand how your body works so think about this analogy.

Your spine is like a construction crane when you stand upright. The weight you carry in the front of your body is what your spine (crane) has to lift and balance. Muscles in your back are like the winch and cable, pulling to keep you vertical. The more weight you have, the more your back muscles have to work. That can lead to back problems, pain and muscle weaknesses.

Having insufficient core strength is contributing to spine and back problems. Your core is the term for the muscles of your back and abdomen (stomach area).  Having a stronger core is ensuring the crane can handle heavier loads. The muscles of your abdomen are important because they help anchor your back muscles.

Here’s another concept to help show how these stresses affect nerve function. Let’s try an experiment. Place a dime on your arm or your finger. Can you feel it?  The answer should be yes.  Leave it there for a few minutes.  Can you still feel the dime?  Almost always, the answer is no. How is that possible?

Dr. Suh’s study at the University of Colorado demonstrates that only ten millimeters of mercury of pressure on a nerve can decrease the flow of nerve power up to 60 percent. Stresses build up in your body, causing this pressure on your muscles, ligaments, joints, spine and nerves.  That pressure can create interference to the nerve force without the person feeling it.  That’s what we’re up against.

You can’t accurately feel the presence of nerve interference or subluxation, because you feel less than 10% of what’s happening in your autonomic nervous system (which runs everything in your body your not consciously aware of).  60+% damage is present in the musculoskeletal and nerve structures when you start to feel symptoms.  This is an example of how the presence or absence of pain isn’t a good indication of how your spine and nervous system is functioning.  There can be prolonged subluxations in your spine, affecting your nerves and major body functions, without you even feeling it; until you do and much serious long term damage has already occurred.

What’s the solution?  Go to the chiropractor, get checked and receive regular chiropractic adjustments to maintain you spine and preserve your health for life.

“Look to the nervous system as the key to maximum health” – Galen

Chiropractic care is all about enhanced communication within your body. Communication is essential in all aspects of life.  If it breaks down within a business, it can cause a bankruptcy; in a marriage, it often leads to divorce; in the body it will cause disfunction.  If there is interference in the nerve forces of the body and communication is affected, this leads to dis-ease. The reason I advocate for lifetime chiropractic care is it improves your body’s ability to properly communicate, allowing optimal life expression.

The brain needs to receive the correct information, otherwise the messages will be altered and incorrect.  Think about this next time you listen to the radio.  Your nervous system communication can be compared to frequencies on the radio. The sounds we perceive from the radio are waves transmitted through the air.  When altering the frequency on the radio, we alter the waves and thereby the message transferred is different.  If there’s static or interference on the station, the message and sound will not come through clearly.  We need a clear signal on the channel to enjoy the music.

Similarly, the brain transmits mental impulses through the nerves as signals for every body function continuously, your entire life.  Proper structure of the spine allows for the channels to send and receive the correct messages for full function.  It’s essential to have clear connection and communication for every process to work efficiently. I believe chiropractic is essential for everyone because it removes interference to allow your innate intelligence to clearly direct all life processes within you.
